Ari Aster thinks Cure, by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, might be the greatest move of all time - so let's explain that! What makes this movie so good - it's unconventional cinematography, it's dark themes, and it's sound design - coupled with fantastic performances from the whole cast - makes it one of the best I've ever seen - and one that sticks with you forever. Leonardo DiCaprio at his best

Leonardo DiCaprio is at his best when he plays roles who themselves play other characters. His role as Jay Gatsby is my favorite example of this, because of how much it communicates the movie's message, and how much DiCaprio nails his role. Titane, from Julia Ducournau, uses violence to reveal more than its story or themes. Titane instead uses it's violence to craft a powerful message about love, metamorphosis, and identity. The audiovisual nightmare of It Follows
Переглядів 6 тис.Рік тому
It Follows from David Robert Mitchell might be the scariest horror movie I've seen. By using tricks in it's cinematography and set design, the film manages to pull it's audience into a terrifying nightmare, from which there is no escape. Although the monster stacks up nicely against Jason, Freddy, or Michael, the true horror lies at the heart of the film's existential dread - that sometimes, th...

    A darker version of the Mike Ehrmantraut character from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, who was the best character on TV. Except Alejandro suffered more and caused more pain... without any hesitation. Mike hesitated at the worst time, and paid the price.

    I remember when I lost faith in America... It was when Obama came out and said the previous administration had... "tortured some folks" I remember thinking.... Are we not the good guys anymore? Thats when I realized that all leaders are the same, from the same pool of humanity. And they will do what they have to do, based on how tight resources are for their country. Whether the resource is safety, or money, or oil, or food, it does not matter.

    Sometimes Darkness fully grips you and doesn't let go. For me, it was 277 days ago when my Father was murdered by my brother. Darkness is something that has always been evident in the family, but up until September 6th it had always been a whisper and a shadow that gradually got louder and blacker until it consumed us. My brother will serve the remainder of his life in jail, with the consequences being somewhat well defined. For me, something inside died. Physical wounds are easy to measure, in a way. Wounds to your soul and mind, though, are hard to weigh. This kind of pain and trauma, part of Darkness, doesn't let go. I know this, because I've seen what an ending to my family can look like. An old man, the cadaver that was my Father, lying on a table with his face bruised and sliced up, his neck stitched back together. His white hair stained pink from lying in a pool of blood. My daughter is all that's left. But one day she may find out what happened and understand why, exactly, her own Father "looked sad sometimes." I do my best for her, her kindness and love are my Light as real and true as any genuine quality. She is my Father's legacy and I do my best to teach her generosity and patience. To contain and shield her from this pain however, as I have been consumed, is the hardest thing I've ever done. Sorry to those who read this. I prefer to write it into the void of whatever because when you speak of such things you can see the pain spread like a plague on people's faces. It's too much. No one can relate, anyway.

    The idea of this movie was intriguing. Something harmful that is slow but perpetually pursuing. Had potential for some great tension about being easy to get away from but easy to get trapped by complacency. The thought of something that can only slowly walk towards you makes you initially think you could easily plan your life around using location to keep yourself consistently safe. But if you think further you realize that it would be very hard to do. You have to stay some place long enough for it to walk a long distance . But it was executed too much like the B horror movies like Halloween, Friday 13th, etc.... Was disappointing.

    He didn't create the character. Taylor Sheridan did. And also, he is not a good person, he is a hitman of Medellin cartel and he would easily murder Kate, whom he thinks resembles his daughter, if she wouldn't sign.

  • @gregorylagrange
    @gregorylagrange 16 днів тому

    I really did like this movie. And the scene where he gets the gun pointed at him by Kate is what I consider one of the most important scenes relative to the movie it is in that I can think of. And it was really a good idea for them to cut down the dialogue to his one line because it separated this movie from all other movies. Who habitually have a long back and forth of dialogue between characters, trying to build or take advantage of tension. And since the movie is mostly told from her point of view, it played out as a very simple, quick, but impactful way of flipping expectations because the main point of view suddenly gets shoved out of the primary spot. And it showed his character as really somebody who doesn't have time for to play around with somebody who's not fully aware of the world they're in. And he won't ever play around with somebody like that. Served as a prelude to how the movie ended. And to the question of not knowing whether you consider him a bad man or a good man, you don't need to have an answer to that. All you need to know is that he at one point was a good man, or at least at one point he wanted to be one. So the ambiguity to the answer makes it more impactful.
